The Form 2290, Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax, is a Federal excise tax assessed on the use of certain trucks with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more.Every year, the IRS Form 2290 for Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes (HVUT) must be filed by August 31st. The current tax period for heavy highway vehicles begins on July 1st 2021 and ends on June 30th, 2022.The Form 2290 due date for a vehicle first used other than July or for a newly purchased vehicle is the last day of the month following the month of the vehicle's first use.
